A Brief Information about Olympic Games: The Olympic Games are one of the most-viewed sport-events which feature summer and winter sports. Thousands of professional athletes participate in these Games and give their best performances. These Games (summer and winter Games) are held every two years. However if you talk about the respective seasonal Games, they take place every four years. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the governing body of the Olympic Games.
Interesting Olympic Facts:
- It was Pierre de Coubertin who created the Official Olympic Flag in 1914. The Flag has five inter-connected rings which symbolize the significant five continents on earth.
- These five inter-connected rings (from left to right) are Blue, Yellow, Black, Green and Red. It was during the Olympic Games in 1920 when this beautiful Olympic Flag was first flown.
- Do you know what the Olympic Motto is? Well, it is a Latin phrase: Citius, Altius, Fortius which mean Swifter, Higher, Stronger.
- You must have heard about the Olympic Flame. This Flame was always there from the ancient Olympic Games. It was the year 1936, when Carl Diem, the chairman of the 1936 Olympic Games, came out with the idea of the modern Olympic Torch relay.
- Keeping the traditions alive, the flame is always lit at the ancient site of Olympia with the help of a curved mirror and the sun. Then the Torch is passed from one runner to the other and is finally taken to the Olympic stadium.
- How good it feels while receiving medals! Isn’t it? Now when it comes to Olympic medals, there are certain parameters. First, they must be at least 3 millimeters thick and 60 millimeters in diameter. Second, the Gold and Silver medals are made out of 92.5 per cent silver while the Gold medal is covered in 6 grams of gold.
- It was the year 1908 in London, when the first opening ceremonies were held for Olympic Games.

So far, only six teams have attended every Commonwealth Games held, which include Australia, England, Canada, New Zealand, Wales and Scotland. Amongst all teams, it is Australia which has been the highest scoring team for ten games. England is on the second spot for seven and Canada for one.
- James Naismith is accredited with inventing basketball in 1891 and the very first loops he used in the game were peach baskets with no bottoms.
- The game was accepted as an official Olympic Event at the Summer Games in Berlin, Germany in the year 1936.
- National Basketball Association (NBA) is the result of a union between the National Basketball League (NBL) and the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The merger took place after 1948-49 seasons.
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record of scoring most points in a career with 38,387, playing 20 seasons in the NBA.
